Liinks

Born on polar ends of Vancouver Island, LIINKS were the opposites that were destined to attract. Georgia grew up in the Great Bear Rainforest (no road access to her childhood home) and Tony Day aka DJ DWhiz came up in the suburbs of Victoria. Inspired by her dad’s love of Gordon Lightfoot & Stan Rogers, Georgia started singing when she was 5 and eventually picked up the acoustic guitar and began writing lyrics and melodies. 500 km’s south, Tony was staying late after his jazz combo practice to learn Lars Ulrich drum parts and studying the hard hitting production styles of Dr. Dre and Wu Tang.

Georgia eventually moved to Victoria and the two met at the legendary Lucky Bar’s ‘Stirfry Collective’ hip hop night where Tony was guest DJ’ing and Georgia was singing in an open mic, freestyle format. The two hit it off immediately and started writing together.

One of the first songs they wrote was posted online as a demo and the duo was shocked to receive an email from a Korean lawyer letting them know their song was stolen and released by one of South Korea’s biggest pop stars, Hyori Li and had gone #1 across South Korea. After settling out of court Georgia and Tony decided to make their partnership official and after Tony came up with their name and logo, they became LIINKS.

Their first official single titled The Break was released independently and charted at #35 on CHR Billboard and #18 on the Canadian Emerging Artist chart. With 2 charting songs under their belt, the industry started to take notice of their songwriting & production abilities and they signed a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group and relocated to Los Angeles. They’ve since had the opportunity to write for some of the industries biggest pop stars and have also collaborated with Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Kiss) RL Grime, Travis Barker (Blink 182), Datsik, Ephwurd and The Funk Hunters.

LIINKS wrote 3 songs on The Funk Hunters new album Typecast one of which is Say Something, the album’s lead single which is currently receiving radio play across Canada.

While songwriting for other artists is an exciting new lane for LIINKS, their main priority is their artistic project. They just released their debut album Ridge Road on Sept 7th and the album debuted at #9 on the iTunes pop chart in Canada (the only independent act in the Top 30). 3 of the album’s singles (Ceiling Fan, Ghost & Glaciers) were all featured on Spotify’s coveted New Music Friday playlist amongst others and the duo has already garnered over 10 million streams in combination with their featured collaborations. LIINKS has been honing their live show opening for great artists such as KRS One, Method Man, Macy Grey, Jurassic 5, Talib Kweli and Bishop Briggs and have played at the Phillips Backyard Weekender, Rifflandia, Jazz Fest and Westward Festivals.

This past summer LIINKS went on a Western Canadian tour in support of Chali 2na (Jurassic 5) and Georgia also performed as a featured vocalist with The Funk Hunters at the legislature in Victoria for Canada Day (in front of 75,000 people), Osheaga Festival, Fvaded in the Park, Bass Coast, Chasing Summer, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Vancouver Folk Festival.

LIINKS are currently in the studio finishing their sophomore EP with summer festival dates to be announced soon.
